NEXT MEETING

Our next meeting is 22nd February and then every other Wednesday.... All Welcome just call in anytime after 5pm until 7.30pm at the shop.

Information

We have 4 layouts on the go, 2 OO gauge layouts, an N Gauge Layout and a Z gauge layout to replace the T gauge (as members were complaining that they couldn’t see it to put the tiny locos on).

We have regular demonstrations from chipping of locos to adding scenery to your layouts and the main objective of the club is to share and learn skills that are useful for your own layouts.

We have a great group of members with years of experience that they are willing to share… so if you have any problems, questions or just want to chat, call in, they don't bite!!!

All the layouts, as you may expect, can change at any point throughout the building process, even after its ‘supposedly’ finished (especially if Mrs Whiplash decides she doesn’t like it!)

Club News

In the past few months the club has moved from the shops office, to their own area upstairs behind the G scale enabling members to come in, in their own free time to work on the layouts without getting in the staffs way, not that that would ever happen.

Due to the amount of layouts there are now groups working on each of them, who would happily welcome new members.

N Gauge

The oldest of our layouts and still being worked on (is a layout ever really complete?). After some electrical problems with the track involving the double crossover at the front, the decision had been made to swap it out with 2 left hand points instead.

UPDATE: It appears the cause of electrical problems stemmed from the feedback between the controllers of each track which damaged the KATO controller, this was swapped out and all is now working as it should be.

The layout is made up using kato track with a gaugemaster shuttle to enable two locomotives to run on the track, one going round the outer loop, the other running back and forth to the station.

OO Dock

Technically this is the 2nd oldest layout the club is working on, though due to difficulty deciding what it should be, this layout ended up being postponed until a decision could be reached.

The layout is being put on two boards that can be split down the middle for easy transportation to and from shows, as well as for easy storage, although currently being run on analogue control, it is being wired up to allow simplistic conversion to Digital Control when needed by using electrofrog points.

The point control system utilizes relays to allow the polarity of the frogs to be changed, and an indicator led to show the direction of the point on the Mimic panel. All the buildings so far are scratch built to help give an added level of realism and uniqueness to the layout.

OO Shelf

The bogies shelf layout is more of a demonstration layout to be shown in shop when nearer completion, unlike the dock layout where all the buildings are scratch built, The shelf layout buildings are mostly made up from Metcalfe kits, apart from the Signal box.

It has had some recent alterations done to it, such as the repositioning of the points onto the goods yard, though plenty still needs to be done, like the completion of the goods shed and making the goods siding live.

Z Gauge

The Z layout is the smallest layout we have on the go, this is replacing out T gauge layout, which almost got blown away when someone thought an item of scenery was a bit of dust, (this didn’t really happen, but it very well could have).

The Z gauge is made up of ballasted track, similar to Kato, installed in an old CRT TV which had been painted pink at the girls request and controlled using a Gaugemaster Model D Z (one of gaugemasters model d’s modified for Z gauge)

The theme of the layout is currently an Alpine/Lake Scene with a line going around the lake that will either take a freight of passenger train around the lake.
