Bachmann 39-460 LMS 57 ft Porthole 3rd Class Corridor Brake Coach BR Crimson & Cream
The LMS ‘Porthole’ coaches were built after Nationalisation to designs that had been drawn up at Derby in 1947. They were similar to Stanier’s Period 3 stock but had circular toilet windows which gave rise to the ‘Porthole’ nickname.
They had steel walls on a wooden frame and were flush-sided without raised window surrounds. They had sliding window vents and a ribbed metal roof with shell pattern vents.
They were built at BR Derby and Wolverton as well as by Metropolitan-Cammell but production stopped when the BR Mk1 coaches started to be built.
This model is in the standard corridor stock livery of crimson & cream which would have been applied after Nationalisation in 1948 until the change to all over maroon in the mid 1950s.
